As part of our Mind your business strand, we're offering training in a range of areas related to business management & development, production finance, legal & business affairs, rights, and compliance, giving individuals the tools needed to thrive in their chosen field in unscripted TV.
A broad overview of TV business affairs taking in the key legal and commercial challenges which producers face when developing and producing a TV show for the UK and / or international markets.
Who it's for
Producers – early career and upwards working in unscripted TV.
The majority of the USF online short course offering is for those at early career stage and above. As a result, we generally require applicants to have at least 3 credits (unless working in a traditionally uncredited role). If you strongly feel you would still benefit from the training, please email USF@screenskills.com so we can assess if an exception should be made.

- The basics of rights and IP ownership – where does the concept originate and how does the producer secure / clear the rights
- Development – sources of development finance and negotiating the terms of development finance deals.
- Talent engagements – writers, directors, on screen talent.
- Co-production – maximising value, establishing roles and responsibilities, sharing the spoils.
- Broadcast, distribution and other financing agreements – getting the show financed without giving away all the rights.
- The session will include time for Q&A so that participants have an opportunity to discuss real and/or hypothetical situations.
