After a gap due to lockdowns, the Costume Symposium is back, presenting three days of talks and workshops by leading film and television costume specialists, at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School from 2 – 4 September 2022.

The Symposium is supported by the ScreenSkills High-end TV Skills Fund with contributions from UK high-end TV productions.

The event is run by Susannah Buxton, an award-winning costume designer for film and television, and Mary Davies, a film lecturer and event organiser.

It is designed to promote costume making and the associated skills vital to theatre, opera, film and television, and bring together young makers from across the country to exchange ideas, learn from experienced practitioners in the field and celebrate their art.

Speakers for the talks day include award-winning costume designer Phoebe de Gaye (Killing Eve) and actor Miranda Richardson. Practical workshops will be led by Sean Barrett, Toni Bate, Gillian Carew, Michele Carragher, Mark Foster, Kunza and Riina Oun. The workshops are designed for costume technicians and offer an unrivalled opportunity to develop their skills.

The symposium will run from 9:00 to 17:00 each day. Lunch and tea will be provided on Friday 2 September.
