Grand Scheme Media are running a training programme for 20+ Freelance Assistant Editors looking to become VFX editors within an offline editorial space in HETV. This course will be delivered by Milk VFX.
The aim of the training is to get familiar with the role of a VFX editor and the VFX pipeline, including understanding where VFX fits in. Understanding show setups, the relationships from the onset team to the post production departments, and database creation.
Who it's for
The course is open to 20+ Freelance Assistant Editors looking to become VFX editors within an offline editorial space.
You must currently have more than 2x credits working on a High-end Television production in the VFX department to apply for this course.
This programme is funded by the ScreenSkills High-End TV made up of contributions from high-end TV productions made in the UK.
What it covers
This course will be structured with lectures and practical sessions for 5x weeks. Applicants must dedicate 5 weeks outside of their work to be able to attend the course.
Your schedule for your 3x practical days split out over 3 weeks for your cohort will be sent over once your place has been confirmed.
Lectures for the first two weeks of courses will be between times of 13:00 and 15:00.
Group practical sessions will be 4 hours, starting at 2pm.
Practical exercise sessions will all be at Milk VFX

- Overview of VFX in film and television.
- Role of a VFX editor in the post-production process.
- The basic VFX workflow (from shoot to edit to final delivery).
- Introduction to shot tracking software (Shotgun, FTrack, or other production tools).
- VFX Editorial databases for Client side and Vendors.
- The basic VFX workflow (from shoot to edit to final delivery).
- Understanding camera formats and other key choices from filming that impact editorial and VFX.
- File formats, codecs, resolutions, and frame rates.
- Introduction to turnover from a client team and vendor perspective.
- The role of the Vendor side VFX Editor.
