Return to work In craft and tech programme
Are you an experienced craft and tech freelancer who has taken a career break and is now looking to get back into production? Are you lacking confidence in how to approach returning to working in TV? Do you need to refresh some skills, perhaps update your CV and portfolio? Build new networking contacts? Or simply benefit from some trusted support with the re-launch of your career?
Our free Return to Work programme with Mission Accomplished is here to help you work out your route back into high-end TV and will provide you with the tools you need to seek opportunities, return wiith confidence, work successfully as a freelancer and re-build a sustainable career in high-end TV.
This free modular programme, taught by industry trainers Alison Grade and Sarah McCaffrey, will include individual and group career coaching, confidence in returing to the workplace sessions and soft skills training to ensure that participants feel empowered, confident and ready to relaunch their careers in high-end TV production.
This programme is supported by the ScreenSkills High-end TV Skills Fund with contributions from UK high-end TV productions
Who it's for
This programme focuses specifically on craft and tech roles so we are looking for people who are looking to re-enter the industry in the following departments:
- Costume
- Hair and make-up
- Art department
- Locations
- Camera
- Sound
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a UK resident and have the right to work here
- Have a previous track record of 3+ years experience working in craft and technical roles with some experience on high-end TV productions
- Have had a break of at least nine months from the industry and be actively looking to return
- Be able to attend all the sessions and be ready to return to work.

This is a nationwide scheme so we welcome applications from across the UK.
What it covers
This programme will be delivered as online group sessions on the following dates between May and June 2023:
- Monday 24 April - IRL session in person Optional -Birmingham
- Tuesday 2 May- online 10:00-14:00
- Tuesday 9 May - online 10:00-14:00
- Tuesday 16 May - online 18:30-20:30
- Tuesday 23 May - online 18:30-20:30
- Wednesday 24 May - online 18:30-20:30
- Wednesday 7 June- online 10:00-14:00
In addition to the group sessions, each participant will have five hours of one-to-one support.
By the end of the training you will have:
- Gained insight into the current marketplace and opportunities in high-end TV
- Built confidence in your ability to return to work
- An action plan to market yourself to potential productions
- Re-connected with others in your network
On completion of the training, four participants will be awarded paid placements on high end television productions for up to 10 weeks.
