Are you interested in moving into the role of standby art director?

Set Etiquette will be delivering one-day masterclass in  Manchester for crew who want to move into the role of standby art director. Presented by a production designer, director and director of photography, the masterclasses will use two live sets complete with cameras to take you from first day on the job through to working on set.

This masterclass is fully funded by the ScreenSkills Film and High-end Television Skills Funds made up of contributions from high-end television productions and films made in the UK.

Who it's for

This masterclass will be open to anyone with at least one HETV or film credit in the art department and is looking to move into the role of standby art director.

We always welcome applications from under-represented groups, including, but not limited to: those from minority ethnic backgrounds; people with a disability; people from the LGBTQ+ community and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

What it covers

The masterclass will cover:

  • How to read and break down the script
  • What the designer, director and director of photography expect from you
  • What information you garner from the HODs
  • Essential SyncOnSet training (see below)
  • Art department continuity - what it is and what to look for
  • Planning and looking ahead - what are your responsibilities?
  • Working on set – to help give you confidence to step up as a standby art director
  • Who are your immediate team – how does the team work?
  • Invaluable tips on how to be a great standby art director

Participants will be introduced to SyncOnSet software (free trials, tutorials and webinars are available for further exploration after the class).  This software will need to be uploaded onto a personal iPad for the masterclass.  For anyone without access to an iPad, please flag this on your application so we can accomodate you on the day. Help can be given to download the software on the day if required.

This training session for High-End TV and Film professionals based in United Kingdom, will be managed and delivered by Set Etiquette Ltd with trainers who are all working industry professionals.
