About
I'm an experienced documentary producer director. I’m adept at juggling budgetary constraints with ambition, making the most of local crew and expertise, taking an inventive and creative approach to both the practical and narrative sides of filmmaking. I’ve directed large international crews in a variety of locations, from the jungles of Kalimantan to Cape Horn. I’ve guided junior staff through their first foreign shoots, and nurtured and mentored emerging local talent, sourcing local drone pilots and other specialists through Instagram, for example. I’ve been responsible for complex technical shoots in remote and challenging locations (boat-based in the rough seas of the Southern Ocean, cave diving in isolated parts of Mexico, rope access following primates in SE Asia). I’m experienced at negotiating and obtaining access, often in politically sensitive situations. I’ve brokered deals with local production companies on complex multi-camera shoots, enabling coverage of a race across open sea via shotover, underwater and sync. I’ve directed and written almost 20 hours of broadcast televsion and have worked with a diversity of different editors and production companies. I’m a strong writer and confident at adapting my style to the requirements of different broadcasters, formats and audiences, including National Geographic, Discovery, Travel Channel, Smithsonian as well as the BBC. I’m experienced at juggling the demands of additional associated content including digital, and can self-shoot to a high standard. I’m also experienced at directing presenter-led and obs doc formats.
