High-end TV working group investments 2024/25

The High-end TV Skills Fund invests in developing the skills of high-end TV professionals at all career stages across the whole of the UK and in bringing new entrants into the industry.

The High-end TV Council and industry-led groups – made up of more than 60 industry leaders - decide how the contributions are invested, using their experience and the most up-to-date research to determine the most effective use of the collected funds.

The working groups are:

  • Craft and tech
  • Production grades

  • Post and visual effects (VFX)
  • Unscripted
  • Regions
  • Wales
  • Scotland
  • Northern Ireland
  • Make a Move
  • Trainee Finder

These are the investments each group is making this year.

Craft and tech working group

  • Trainee grips - supporting a total number of 40 (plus 10 via Northern Ireland working group)
  • The guiding principle of department budgeting – supporting a total number of 120 (plus 60 via the Film Skills Fund)
  • Good work practices - supporting up to 100 (plus up to 100 via Production Grades working group, up to 50 from the Film Skills Fund and 15/20 via the Unscripted working group)
  • Electrical bursaries - supporting a total number of 10
  • 1st AD Training - supporting a total number of 12
  • Start a career in set decoration and props - supporting a total number of 30 with 15 placements
  • Stand by art department dressing for camera - supporting a total number of 10 (plus 10 via the Film Skills Fund)

Production grades working group

Production coordinator training - supporting a total number of 30 (plus an additional five from Wales and five from Northern Ireland)

Production accountant training - supporting a total number of 40 (plus an additional 20 from the Film Skills Fund)

Good work practices training - Supporting up to 100 (plus up to 100 via Craft and Tech working group, up to 50 from the Film Skills Fund and 15/20 via the Unscripted working group)

Good work practices in locations - supporting a total number of 40 (plus an additional five/six online in Wales and additional five/six online in Scotland)

Sustainability coordinator training - supporting a total number of 10 with five placements

Line producers (production management route) - supporting a total number of 20 (plus an additional five from Wales)

Line producers (AD/location manager) - supporting a total number of 20, this has been merged into a hybrid course with the LP production management route course

Producers working group

Co-producer placement programme - supporting a total number of eight

Co-producer alumni support (TBC) - supporting a total number of 53

Post and VFX working group

Leading effective teams in post and VFX - supporting a total number of 50

E-learning modules - three or more further modules supporting 200+

Training for VFX editors - supporting 20+

Dolby Atmos training - supporting a total number of 15

Post and VFX bursaries - supporting a total number of seven

Music editor training - shadowing placements for five of last year’s alumni on 10-day placements  at £200 per day

Assistant editor programme - supporting a total number of 10

Unscripted working group

Archive researcher - supporting a total number of three (co-funded by the Unscripted TV Skills Fund)

Editor training programmes - supporting a total number of four, number of placements TBC

Bursaries for underrepresented groups - supporting a total number of 12

VFX management programmes - supporting a total number of 20

Regions working group

New regional directors champion programme - supporting a total number of three mentors and mentees

Junior regional engagement manager (12 month contract) – one full time role to work as part of the high-end TV team

New regional writers programmes – ongoing support for 2023/24 cohort supporting a total of 10

Wales working group

Developing HODs in Wales - supporting a total number of five (to include one editor)

Stepping up - supporting a total number of seven

Script editor programmes - supporting a total number of 18

Production management training - supporting a total number of 10 with placements for two

Developing line producers in Wales (production management route) - supporting a total number of five

Production coordinator training - supporting a total number of five

Good work practices in locations - supporting a total number of five to six

Scotland working group

Production script editor placements – placements for two

Early entrant pathways - supporting approximately 120

APOC training - supporting a total number of 20 with two placements

Hair and make-up for textured hair types and deeper skin tones - supporting a total number of 20

Step-up to costume supervisor - supporting a total number of 10

Good work practices in locations - supporting a total number of five to six

2nd AD training - supporting a total number of 10

Steadicam training - supporting a total number of five

Gaining a better understanding of post-production for production roles - supporting up to 15

3rd AD training - supporting a total number of 11

Northern Ireland working group

Trainee grips - supporting a total number of 10

Production coordinator training - supporting a total number of five

Steadicam training - supporting a total number of eight to 10

Clearances - supporting a total number of 40 (plus six to eight via the Unscripted working group)

VFX training (technicians) - supporting a total number of 20-25

VFX training (production team) - supporting a total number of 10

Music supervisor training - supporting a total number of five

Progressing into 1st AD - supporting a total number of five with five placements

Make a Move working group

Make a Move ‘classic’ - supporting a total number of 100

Trainee Finder working group

In-house delivery - supporting a total number of 299 trainees in 2024/25 cohort
