This year’s British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs) saw big wins for productions that contributed to the Film Skills Fund. Taking place at London’s Roundhouse, the ceremony celebrated the best achievements of British and international cinema from the past 12 months and was held a following the announcement of the winners in the craft categories the previous week.
Irish language film Kneecap was the biggest winner on the night, picking up a total of seven awards from its 14 nominations. The loosely autobiographical story of the Belfast rap group won the Best British Film award alongside wins in the joint performance, screenwriter, casting, musical and editing categories.
Santosh, an Indian-set police drama, was awarded in the best screenplay and breakthrough producer categories. There were further wins for Fund contributors in the performance categories as the best lead performance went to Marianne Jean-Baptiste for her turn in Mike Leigh’s Hard Truths and the best supporting performance category was won by Franz Rogowski for his role in Andrea Arnold’s Bird. Bring Them Down, starring Barry Keoghan and Christopher Abbott, was another winner, with Christopher Andrews given the best debut director award.
We congratulate all winning productions – as well as those nominated – and thank them for their contributions to the Film Skills Fund.
