The nominations for this year’s British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs) feature 10 productions that contributed to the Film Skills Fund, receiving a total of 48 nominations among them.

Leading the way with 14 nominations is Kneecap, the comedic origin story of the Northern Irish rap group of the same name. The Outrun, the adaptation of Amy Liptrot’s memoir, picked up nine nominations, including Best Lead Performance for Saoirse Ronan. Both of those titles will compete for the Best British Independent Film award alongside Santosh which received three nominations in total.

Andrea Arnold’s Best Director nomination was one of seven for her latest release, Bird, while the uniquely styled, Hoard, picked up six nominations, including one for first-time director, Luna Carmoon.

There were three nominations for Sister Midnight and two each for Bring Them Down and Mike Leigh’s Hard Truths. London-set drama Sebastian and documentary Made in England: The Films of Powell and Pressburger were both recognised in one category.

Contributions from titles such as these allows the Fund to invest in tailored training designed to support those at each stage of their film career journey. In addition to contributing to the Fund, five of the nominated titles welcomed trainees onto their production from the Film Trainee Finder programme, ScreenSkills’ flagship new entrant initiative.

We thank each production for their contribution and wish them luck for the awards, held in London on December 8.
