Key initiatives and partnerships from the ScreenSkills strategy

Strong and enduring partnerships are central to our five-year strategy. They address current and future skills gaps, ensure training aligns with industry needs, and foster innovation. Collaborations with organisations like the BBC, Create Central, and 4Skills will equip the workforce for the future. We are also working with Animation UK, UKIE, and the UK Screen Alliance to explore skill convergence and transferability across film, TV, gaming, and animation, enabling professionals to move seamlessly between sectors and strengthen the industry.

The BBC, Create Central and ScreenSkills

Create Central, the BBC, and ScreenSkills are partnering for the West Midlands Skills Accelerator cluster programme in its second year. Create Central, an industry-led body aimed at boosting the region's creative content sector, has identified the need for detailed mapping of skills gaps to inform targeted training and development. This will support the growth of the production sector in the West Midlands. The initiative aims to broaden access to the creative industries, reflecting the region's diversity, including socio-economic factors. ScreenSkills will contribute research and data to identify current and future skills needs and collaborate with local partners to develop targeted interventions using existing funding.

Ampere Research in Partnership with 4Skills

ScreenSkills and 4Skills are partnering on a pilot study with Ampere Analysis to assess the size and profile of the screen industries' workforce. The study will offer a detailed breakdown by region, role, department, seniority, and demographics, identifying areas of workforce shortage or oversupply. Funded by Channel 4’s 4Skills, the research will provide insights into workforce trends, helping to guide resource allocation, set targets, and measure the impact of training programmes. It will also support efforts to address skills gaps and promote equity, diversity, and inclusion across the industry.

BBC And ScreenSkills Research

The BBC and ScreenSkills are co-commissioning research to gain more detailed insight of the entry routes into the creative industries, to help support opportunities for new talent across the UK. The research may consider analysing areas such as key entry points, including HE and FE courses, internships, and entry-level jobs, as well as barriers to entry and the wider impact of training routes.
