About
Born in Mauritius with the two languages, French and English, I went to train at the National Theatre of Chaillot in France. I first worked in Paris with international director such as Hans Peter Cloos and Deborah Warner and was deeply influenced by ‘In yer face’ theatre and german practitionners like Ostermeier.
From Indian origins, I came to London in 2006 to explore non-western theatre forms. I also intensively worked as an actor on shows like Red Oleander with Kevin Rowntree, Shakespeare’s Love’s Labor’s Lost with Knight Mantell, and also performed the lead in Huis Clos in French among others. "David Furlong is refreshingly natural as Garcin. There is minimal artifice there, as he drifts seamlessly between outwardly friendly man's man and seedy, vain creep." Remotegoat review of Huis Clos, October 2010
I started directing in 2006 with the Exchange by Paul Claudel, a French masterpiece unknown in the UK. I have now translated and directed over 30 shows including unknown Feydeau farces, The Flies by Sartre with a live rock band on stage, Bal Trap by Durringer (the French Ravenhill) that was also picked-up and read off-Broadway. I also became resident director at the French Institute for bilingual season of kids shows which allowed me to develop and explore my craft: I experimented with immersive theatre, interactivity, promenade, puppetry, musicals and many more…
I am also a member of the Young Vic director’s programme where I regularly attend masterclasses and also assisted Joe Hill-Gibbins on his production of The Changeling. Lastly, I’m hugely influenced by Opera directors and I am an assistant director for Geneva studio Opera.
